Guest Chef Defendify Cooks Up a Storm at the Ronald McDonald House

The Defendify team loves to volunteer in the community, and our most recent activity was at the Ronald McDonald House. The team stepped out of the office and into the kitchen to prepare a homemade meal for families staying at the local House right in our backyard in Portland, Maine.

The Ronald McDonald House provides a place for families to stay while their child receives care for illness or injury at a local hospital. The Portland House is walking distance from the hospital, and provides a homey, supportive environment for families, some of whom have a child in the hospital for an extended period of time. Run by a dedicated team of volunteers, staff, and other Ronald McDonald House residents, the Houses become a home-away-from-home for families during an emotionally and physically draining time.

In addition to comfortable rooms, living spaces, and toys and playground equipment, the Ronald McDonald House has a full kitchen where they serve meals regularly. They often rely on volunteer groups to come in and cook their favorite recipes for the residents.

And that’s where Defendify comes in: the team planned, shopped for, and prepared a meal for a group of 25 in the community kitchen. On the menu was family-favorite shepherd’s pie, roasted asparagus, chopped Greek salad, and locally baked bread. The Guest Chef volunteer program was a great way for the Defendify team to give back to the community while celebrating our shared love of food and cooking – not to mention it was an excellent teambuilding activity.
